New novice racing series revs up for Snetterton debut
02/06/10
A new novice racing series will make its Norfolk debut on 26 June when Snetterton hosts the second round of the Club MSV Trackday Trophy.
Club MSV is the in-house trackday organiser of MotorSport Vision, the company that owns five UK circuits including Snetterton. It launched the Trackday Trophy contest earlier this year to encourage new drivers into motorsport in a cost-effective manner.
The Club MSV Trackday Trophy is aimed primarily at amateur drivers who have taken their own car on circuit several times and would like to progress to the next level and go racing.
“As the in-house trackday business for the UK’s largest motorsport operator, we are regularly asked by our customers how to get into racing,” says Club MSV manager Alex Baker.”Traditionally there are several hurdles, so we decided to start a series of our own. We offer driver training packages as well as ARDS tests so we can help anyone to obtain a National B racing licence. With the Trackday Trophy we effectively offer a ‘one stop shop’ into motorsport, making it as easy as possible for anyone - regardless of their experience - to go racing.”
The series is open to single entries and teams of two drivers with reasonably relaxed car regulations. There are four power-to-weight categories up to a maximum 200bhp/ton and each round features a 30 minute practice/qualifying session and a 45 minute race.
There were more than 20 entries for the inaugural round of the Club MSV Trackday Trophy at Brands Hatch in late March, which was won by BMW M3 of Jim Cameron in challenging wet conditions. An eclectic mix of vehicles featured on the grid including Citroen Xsaras, Ginetta G20s, Renault Clios and Porsche 924s.
"We were absolutely ecstatic with the first race of the season,” added Alex Baker. “It exceeded all our expectations and we're hoping for an even bigger grid for Snetterton."
Several entries have already been received for Snetterton on 26 June, although a limited number of places are still available for £299 including VAT.For more information on how to go racing or on entering the Club MSV Trackday Trophy, call 0870 850 5014 or visit www.trackdaytrophy.com.
