Football No Score Draw
18/01/10
When is an asset not an asset? When it becomes a liability!
Owners of soccer clubs will be aware of this fact because every English football league player nowadays commands/demands a high wage level; notwithstanding this great sport is ailing and spiralling out of financial control.
'They' (Directors!) are now seized with panic and realisation having brought monetary chaos on themselves due to uncontrollable egotism, and that's what 'it' is, an ego trip! What goes up must come down!
And isn't it obvious because, daily, we hear of 'famous' established clubs being threatened with bankruptcy/administration?
Unfortunately the characterization is being destroyed and 'English-ism' is at issue and endangered given the personnel of current clubs; the influx of foreign players littering the grounds is proving a major turn-off, just look at attendances, closely!
England started football back in the late 1800's, teams all over the country conscripted local players to represent towns and cities and a hundred years later the Football League Association was able to oversee a wonderful entertaining product.
All the colossal 'investment' on foreign players, who are only here for the big Sky TV money, despite what you may read/think, is now causing a ludicrous/vulgar imbalance of finance; in the not too distant future, clubs will find difficulty off-loading their assets whilst having to pay them sky-rocket wages as they play to empty stadiums. Don't believe it? Just wait a couple of years!
That wont happen at Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea etc, will be the usual cry; it's unthinkable, isn't it?
Any self-respecting accountancy firm would fill supporters with horror and disillusionment were they allowed to carry out thorough inspections; Her Majesty's Inspector Of Taxes is also lurking and indeed a couple of high-profile establishment figures, Harry Redknapp and Milan Mandaric*, face court proceedings during the next few weeks.
Once it was money, money, money now it's not funny, funny, funny!!!
* Both were involved at Portsmouth, when manager/owner, where the finances of that club leave a lot to be desired; it can't even pay the players' wages...!
