Camsports Nano Wearable Sports Camera on test with 1 Degree Magazine

CAMSPORTS Nano Wearable Sports Camera

CAMSPORTS of France, manufacturer's of wearable video cameras, have produced Nano, a new camera for use while the wearer is playing sport, so in theory, perfect for YouTube debuts.

The Nano is waterproof, ultra-light and extremely compact. It is designed to be worn during adventurous sporting activities such as skiing, sailing, riding and paragliding, and is said to work effectively whether used on land or in the air, and even underwater. The camera creates videos with a maximum resolution of 736 x 480 pixels.

The Nano comes with a variety of fastening accessories to enable the user to clip it to a helmet, goggles (for skiing or cycling, for example) or headband. The camera is 68mm long and also features a microphone, a 4Gb flash memory and a rechargeable battery, which offers approximately 75 minutes’ recording time. The camera weighs just 22 grams.

The Nano is apparently very easy to use – there is a single button to stop and start the camera, and to record. The camera is compatible with both PCs and Macs, and can also be used with a USB stick. Its videos can be played by most standard software programs. No additional memory card or battery is required. The internal battery, sized for about 500 cycles, is recharged via a computer’s USB port or, for faster reload, via a mains adaptor.

The Nano, which was launched in France in November 2009, retailing at €139 including VAT, is largely aimed at extreme-sports enthusiasts. CAMSPORTS is aiming to become a major player on the European consumer sports-camera market, and to that end is seeking new distributors across Europe.

The Nano is currently being reviewed by our tame cameraman. His opinions will be posted on this site week commencing 2nd April 2010.
